Beauty, you are mine.

Description

Inspiration
"beauty, you are mine."

This is my Christmas present for a very close friend of mine from school. Well, I didn't make it of her, or really because of her.
I guess I should just say I dedicate this to her. Okay? Pretend that's what I said all along.

Dear friend,

This is my present to you. Beauty, you are mine. For you, it is supposed to represent understanding who you are. A bit of a stretch, maybe? Allow me to explain. You're a wonderful person, a lot better friend than people give you credit for. Sure, you can be clingy, and sure, you stress over the wrong things, but that doesn't matter in the end. Life's like that – you look back and shake your head, but the past is past and you can't change that – and you'll never catch up if you stop and cry about everything.
This girl is beautiful, isn't she? She is delicate and powerful at the same time, like a diamond that you could drop and shatter. You make everyone think you're so strong, well guess what, you're not. Drop the charade, it'll wear you down. Everything but her eye is hidden, so you have no idea what face she's wearing underneath. But really, it doesn't matter because you can see it all in her iris: love, pain, trust, fear, and I have no idea what you can see, and I also have no idea what she's looking at. But I wonder, believe me. I wonder.
I think she's fallen out of love. I think she sees the truth.
Someday you'll have her falling eyes, friend, and I wish you'd know that they'll be more beautiful than ever when you do.

Sometimes I wish I was in love with you. But every time I do, I know that what we've got is even better.

Regards,
me

(She made me a present, and I secretly did the same. Although she might have suspected I was up to something like this, I don't know.)

Now, on to the more professional part of my deviation description:

Technique
The title is not supposed to be possessive. The beauty is not mine, it's hers. Get it? She's saying "beauty, you are mine." Because she knows she's beautiful, and like I said, she sees the truth. It's supposed to look like a fragment of a sentence, that's the reason for no capitalization at the top of this box.

I edited it in an extremely complicated manner that I don't want to write down because it's almost 1:00 in the morning.
It took quite some time, mainly because I tried a bunch of different things and then had to decide what looked the best. :faint: Also, the colouring of the iris was some pretty intense RGB (together and separate) curve manipulation.

Hey! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="38" height="15" alt="" title="Hug"/> I didn't realize you had picked up photomanipulation! This is really great! The pink tones really soften the image and give it a slightly otherworldly feel. Did you enhance the retina? Sometimes it takes a little white paint set to soft light or overlay, or even some colors set to soft light or screen. Also, how did you do the skin? You're definitely on the right track, but it looks like a Gaussian blur filter was applied just a little too harshly. You could fill in the brows and extend the eyelashes with black paint, but that may not have been the look you were going for.

Overall, I think this is a well-done, effective picture, and I was super excited to find it in your gallery!
