Lost potential

Description

Inspiration
This picture is significant to me for several reasons. First of all, obviously, it's a beautiful picture of a forest floor. The stillness gets me every time.
But, more importantly, it gets to me because I know that that acorn will never become an oak tree. Look at it, that hole means it's been destroyed from the inside. It's dead, lying there with lost potential. And it's sad; I mean, a seed is basically the symbol of potential.

 Excuse my ramblings.

The campsite we were at had a lot of oak trees. And acorns would randomly fall out of nowhere. It was exciting, to say the least.
We gathered a bunch of them to plant at our house. :dummy:

Technique
The main reason I'm really proud of this shot is because all of the camera settings were manual. I set the depth of field, shutter speed, etc. over a couple of shots, until the lighting and focus was as I liked it. I've never done something like that before, and I felt like a true professional.

(I'm sure my cousins or whoever were watching me thought I was a little strange.)

Oh, we have that acorn problem. They bounce off of our roof and deck. One fell and hit Kelly in the lead last week and she came inside with a rather indignant look on her face. It was actually hilarious.

Regardless, this is really, really pretty.
