Project 52, week 16
[my theme]
The song: I Can Barely Breathe (watch the music video here)
The lyrics:
When the dark flood came,
we wrapped ourselves inside a dirty blanket,
citing different opinions
on whether we should move.

When the houses came,
they ate up everyone like they were fishes,
saying, "Come on, come on
it's the end of the world."

And then I saw your face.
You're turning skin into a dirty secret;
I watched the beauties, watched the fire
And the fire burn the beauty in their eyes.

When I took the blame,
we layed in ruins trying to quote your phrase.
We're yelling, "Someone's got the answers,
but I'd rather think there's nothing to be found."

If you knew I was dying would it change you?

So when you see me falling backwards down the wall that says I'm still alive,
Don't be cautious when I'm cautiously approaching on the other side.
Everybody has their reasons, that's the reason we're all going to die.

Because if seeing is believing,
Then believe that we have lost our eyes.

When I fly solo, I fly so high.
Don't touch me now.

We all deserve something.
The inspiration: I'll probably do this song twice or something, because I only captured part of what this song makes me feel. There's an apocalyptic element to the lyrics, obviously, so this picture is meant to recreate the destructive theme of the lyrics. The other part that I want to work on is the symbolism of the eyes, but that's not what this one is about.

I big inspiration from this song is something that you have to hear rather than read – the numerous crashes of cymbals such as after, "it's the end of the world." I don't know about you, but for me that crescendo and the dandelion going up in flames are really similar. Dandelions, if you weren't aware, burn really, really quickly. Like, in less than a second. And so it's like the music – from something really soft and quiet to something loud and sudden.

There's inspiration in the lyrics too: "watched the fire burn the beauty" and "it's the end of the world." I absolutely love this song.

You know what else I love? This poem written for me by ~WinterSmith-Angel, inspired by this photo:
& we'll set fire to dandelions, just to see how well they burn.
Just watch; the world is ending now, this is the time to learn.
So tell me, do you see it now? Do you see how fragile this world is?
Upon these now-charred dandelions, it's time; make your wish.
Amazing, eh?

The technique: I tried this out a week or so ago just to see how they burned and since then I was just waiting impatiently for enough dandelions to go to seed so I could give this a try. *WanderingHere and I went out to the pasture and spent maybe twenty minutes or less lighting different dandelions on fire. Basically, I would set up my tripod, focus the camera and then she would set it ablaze. Pretty simple.

I tried to edit out the match but I couldn't do it well enough. Don't blame her for not being quick enough to get the match out of the frame – like I said, those things burn fast. This was a really fun experiment with precision photography.

This is absolutely lovely. I love the soft colours and serenity of the picture. The flame also draws the eye to the image. Whenever I saw it in the thumbnail, I just knew I had to see it larger.

I truly think it was a creative idea to burn the dandelion. I would think it'd burn immediately, but you snapped the photo at a perfect time. I like that the burning Dandelions are clear and crisp, while the sides blur out a bit. Creative, as well. I certainly would never have thought of it.

Overall, I think you did a good job. C:

Oh, this is lovely. The softness and composition of the colors are the best things about this for me :)
