This is part of my collection of past digital art – deviations that I don't consider to be of significant artistic value, but are part of my journey as an artist.

Inspiration
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

– "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen

In this picture, I tried to combine the old with the new.
That's music from Handel's Messiah, and those are iPod headphones.
(Completely different centuries.)

I wanted to show that music carries on forever —
"Were it not for music, we might in these days say, the Beautiful is dead."

– Benjamin Disraeli

Technique
This picture has gone through several transformations.

In the beginning, it was a simple picture, almost all white (and very boring). I edited it so that it was a more sepia style, without actually knowing what sepia was, and it's been like that for quite a while. That first edit actually took a long time mainly because it began very bland and I continued to adjust the tones and saturation until I was happy with it.

But I redid this, mainly because I still felt that it was too boring. Using a vintage paper stock image and a setting on Photoshop, I added the layer of texture to give it more of a significance to the theme of time.
I had to do it twice because the layers became merged and I had to start again.

Special Mentions
*HtBlack, because she critiqued my first try and helped me fix it up.
The paper texture is from here by ~S3PTIC-STOCK.

When I first saw this artwork, I was instantly drawn to it, and intrigued to go look at it. It has an air of simplicity, yet a technique of making it seem artistic and elegant. The lighting gives it an even better effect of the depth of how music has changed.

I love how you've got the focus on one of the headphones, yet as the focus fades away, the music looks like its turning, like turning another page, into the modern era.

It's really had to give critique for this, but one thing i would say, is to possibly make an image of just the manuscript and the headphones peeping in. Have you done one in greyscale too?

Once again, I love your work, and you are going to be added to my watch now :D
